Water Challenge! [#1]

You will have more energy and lose pounds of fat!


1 Fill up a single jug or bottle or pitcher with your daily amount of water (SEE BELOW) in the morning. (Buy a jug of water & reuse that jug) You must finish the entire contents of your jug before you go to bed that night. PERIOD.

2 Do it for 10 days straight.

3 Finish all of the previous days water before you can start over with today’s water. That jug is your life line! Only water from the jug counts towards your Challenge. (Squeeze real lemons into the water if you like. Or add sliced cucumbers)

4 You can drink additional things. Just minimize the amount of coffee and soda and energy drinks (etc) during the Challenge. (I don’t expect you to just stop cold turkey…I’m realistic!)

5 Get a group of you to do it together!

Daily recommended water amount:

◊ Drink 1/2 ounce for every 1 pound of your weight, every day.

◊ That’s .033 liters per 1kg you weigh.

150lbs. Half = 75. So 75 ozs each day
250lbs. Half = 125. So 125 ozs each dayMetric
68kg x .033 = about 2 liters day
90kg x .033 = about 3 liters each day
(NINJA TIP: For every 64ozs of water, I put 1/2 teaspoon of Himalayan or sea salt in it. WHY? Increase water intake requires more unrefined salt to force the water in the your cells. – NOT WHITE TABLE SALT! Squeeze 1/2 a lemon in to offset the salt taste. Click here for proof)


Resetting your body is all about undoing years of bad habits and less than perfect health choices. As you’ve heard a thousand times, drinking lots of water is critical. Quite honestly, the only way the rest of the Reset steps will work is if you keep your water intake up, nice and high.


The Earth is 70% water. Your body is 80% water. It stands to reason that water is some pretty important stuff – right?  Water is the body’s transportation medium. It’s how it moves EVERYTHING around to different parts of your body…everything. Water is used to move nutrients to your 100 trillion cells in your body. Water is used to move waste & toxins from your cells to your kidneys, to leave your body. Water is used to wash fat from your body. These things have to
get out somehow, right? They don’t just evaporate away! So water moves good things around your body, and water moves waste and toxins and fat out. (Watch my weight-loss video)

Many of us drink a lot of LIQUID each day…but we don’t drink a lot of WATER.

IMPORTANT – sodas & juice & energy drinks (etc) are not treated the same as water! Just because it’s a liquid does not mean that it’s water. You know this already – gasoline: it’s a liquid but drinking it is bad news, right? Look at the ingredients label on the
can of a soda or an energy drink. That liquid is made of those things: high fructose corn syrup – is that water? Caramel color – is that water? Phosphoric acid – how about that? If it does not say water (plain H2O) then your body treats that drink as a food…because that’s what it is!

If I take a hamburger, throw it in a blender, blend it up until its a liquid…that doesn’t make it water and your body will use that the exact same way as if you ate the burger. Your body will NOT use it to move nutrients around your body. And your body will NOT use it to wash toxins & fat out of your cells/body.

Pee Time!

Pee Time!


– You will pee more…Welcome the pee! That is how your body removes the toxins and the fat from your cells and your body. Help it out. I drink tons of water and I pee…deal with it! It’s temporary – the excess peeing will stop within a week. (Your pee will be very light yellow, almost clear – by the way)
(When you add the 1/2 teaspoon of pink Himalayan sea salt for every 64ozs of water, you pee a TON less. The sea salt causes your cells to absorb more of the water! Click here for Why!)

-For some – temporary: headache, bloating, & water retention (for a few days, then it passes and the magic happens!)
– You’ll have more regular, easier to pass, bowel movements
– More energy!
– You’ll be less hungry
– Many of you will lose an inch or 2 from your waist.

– Your skin will become more clear
– Less joint pain
– You’ll have less annoying body sweating (more water = less excess sweat!)
– A few of you will become bloated. That’s not because you are drinking too much water. It’s caused by a lot of gut activity now that you have the proper amount of water. That’s causing some gas, and it’s trapped. And of course it’s temporary.

    terry do we still eat as normal and just add the gallon of water. 250lbs want to lose 40lbs u have inspired me to be more healthy

            You have no business giving people this kind of advice. Several case studies show that overloading water is dangerous and even deadly. I don’t know how can you sleep at night after giving people bogus advice. If anyone suffers medical problems from this, it’s on you.

I’m a licensed nutritionist, and my case studies and many others before me, have proven that this amount of water is not “over loading”, and is in fact crucial at helping humans process nutrients and remove cellular wastes. A wise man once told me: Question EVERYTHING! Case studies aside – try the Challenge for yourself, and see what you experience. BE WELL

        I have started about 7 days now and I have actually gained close to 12 lbs, i’m drinking 2 liters of water and went from 172.6 lbs on the 30th May 2015 to 183.4 lbs on 6th June 2016, what am i doing wrong I go to the gym, do Aqua Aerobics. Mon – Fri. What must i do.

          Hi Karen! Fear not. That is very common for some. If you have been dehydrated (as I was) for many years, your body is temporarily using that precious water to do deferred maintenance.

    I want to lose a total of 70 lbs. Anyone who knows me, knows I eat well 90% of the time and yet I have fought weight issues my ENTIRE life, so when I heard about you, I jumped at the opportunity to join up with you. I am motivated, hard working and willing to do whatever it takes. This should be really interesting. I will add, that up until 3 months ago, I worked out for at least 1 1/2 hours 3 times a week but after all these years of disappointment, I, for the first time in over 20 years, stopped exercising. I own 2 businesses now and I work many hours more than 40 a week. I just want you to know, I am putting a lot of faith into your system. HELP!!

    Hello, I’m actually going to do the veggie cleanse. I was wondering if there are any flavored waters that are acceptable? I’m not really familiar with any, but thought that that might make a difference in how enjoyable it would be to drink the required amount of water.

    Hey Terry, so I don’t drink much soda or energy drinks, but I tend to have tea in the mornings and go out and have alcoholic beverages with some friends at night, do I need to cut back on any of this while I drink my 95oz of water? By the way my drink is rum and soda water, does carbonation make our bodies think water is food as well? Thanks!

      Great question Dave. 1) you don’t need to change anything about what you drink, other than ADD your 95oz of water daily.

      2) Carbonated water does not count towards your 10 day water challenge. Just plain water please. The carbonation (carbon dioxide gas) puts more gas in your belly and might make ya belch. Act accordingly!

        I drink plain carbonated water all the time and gas and belch are not a problem. Body is probably used to it. Does the seltzer water still not count towards water intake?

    I work all day and cant carry around my jug. Ive been pouring the water from my jug into a water bottle and refilling it as soon as its empty; does this count?? I hope so I’m on day four and hope this is still counting!

    Hi Terry on the 10 day water challenge if you are unable to complete your water 4 days in a row that means you should probably start over correct? I did great 6 days
    straight but the first 4 were hard due to working long long hours and I didn’t really have the freedom of running to the rest room due to the environment I was in.

      Good for you to look for a way around this obstacle Brandy. Def not Crystal light (that’s a pure chemical creation). try these:
      – squeeze fresh lemon water in it (not the plastic lemon bottle junk)
      – add chopped cucumber or strawberry, etc to it

      once you do one of the cleanse on my site, your taste buds will literally Reset, and you’ll need less taste bud “stimulation”

    I can’t see part of your explanation on what is water. I drink a lot of water but add a few drops of Mio flavoring. Is this OK?

      Great question. Definitely do not add Mio or other chemical based flavoring to your water. Try adding fresh lemon juice, or chopped cucumbers. Yum!

    I’m starting the water challenge tomorrow! I’ve been cooking healthy and working out 2 hours 5-6 days a week, I’m on week 5 now and have lost 37lbs. I don’t get enough water how it is but at my weight I’d have to drink around a gallon and a half a day…I’m guessing the more you weigh the harder this challenge is!

    I am wanting to loose about 10 lbs and want to start the challenge. What amount should I be drinking? I try to limit myself to one coke a day if I drink one. I’m 5’2″ and between 148 & 152 lbs depending on the day. Any advise?

      You divide 152 by 2 = 76. 76 ounces per day. Use 1 jug. Fill it up daily, and start today! You can do it…

      Hi Nelson. Tap water is better than nothing. Even though Chlorine and Fluoride are great at killing bacteria in the water as it’s piped to our faucet, those little buggers add up over time! Do that best you can, just keep your water intake up!

      CONGRATULATIONS JUDY!! Everything is going fine. Don’t worry – you’re not the weirdo that water doesn’t work on 🙂 Let your body use the water as it sees most important right now. Maybe fat removal isn’t as important as washing away pre-cancer cells, right now. Or lubricating your joints is high priority, right now. Don’t worry, if you need to lose fat, your will. Stick to the plan and let your body Reset itself the way it feels best! BRAVO!

    I want to start Challenge #1, but….

    I’m on super high doses of steroids (Prednisone) and one of the major side affects is water retention and puffiness. I have it really bad in my face, neck, and stomach. Will drinking this large amount of water make me even bigger in these water retention areas??? I’m pretty unrecognizable in my face at this point and I look pregnant. 🙁

      Hi Rachel, Great question. Check with a couple of doctors (not just 1) about their thoughts on water intake interaction with your medication. I’ll tell you this, the goal of the Challenges to have your body repair and heal itself enough so that you don’t NEED the steroids. Don’t let the fact that you’re taking a medication, prevent you from healing your body, so that you ultimately can wean OFF the medication. Give the Water Challenge a try, if you are uncomfortable, skip to the 21 Salad Challenge. Eventually, one of the Challenges will improve your test results, and your doc will start lowering your steroid doses. Water is critical to your 100 trillion cells. Depending on what else happened during your 10 days on the Water Challenge, your body may have detoxed some way other than losing weight (Start measuring your upper arms, waist, hips, and upper thighs.     Hey! So I understand the need for so much water and that really is not an issue for me. What I don’t understand is why it has to come from the same jug everyday. Is that just so you see how much your drinking? Could I just use a 20 oz. bottle and refill it?

      Hi Meg. You are exactly correct. It’s super easy to lose count of small bottles, all day or you find, at bedtime, you have more to go. IDEA: Feel free to fill up as many 20oz bottles in the morning, as you need, and work your way through them. Trust me, you’ll pace yourself better! Now…BRING IT!

      Hi Kris! No Mio, no mo! Why? We are only putting natural things in our body (plants or animals) Looking at the ingredients for Mio – i can’t figure out what plant or animal those chemicals are from. Try: Lemon juice, chopped cucumbers or strawberries, etc. CRUSH IT!

    Terry, I am thinking about starting your challenge. I work outside in the hot sun everyday. Because of this I drink bottles of water all day. My only question is do I need to change my water intake with the fluctuations of my body weight?

      Hi Paul, good question! You certainly can progressively lower your daily water intake as you drop weight. But keep in mind, if you sweat a lot, then drink more water to make up for what you lose! Don’t worry about drinking too much, your body knows what to do with any excess. GO GET IT!

    I am into my 4th day of the water challenge and I actually feel pretty great. And drinking so much water actually makes me not as hungry, I don’t have headaches like I uses to and my back doesn’t hurt a much.     Started the water challenge to prep for an event in two weeks on recommendation of a friend. Quick question…to measure out the water, are we to use ounces or fluid ounces? I’ve been using a 23.7 fl. oz arrowhead water bottle to keep track of exactly how much I’m putting into my regular water bottle over the course of a day.

      Hi Kyle. Oz or fluid ozs are fine! The results will show for sure. As reminder, I do recommend you use 1 large jug for your full daily serving (vs a lot of smaller bottles or refilling)
      Having your goal stare you in the face all day does wonders! Kick butt!

    I finished the water challenge! I only lost 2 lbs, but have found that even after the 10 days I’m still filling my jug. I like that it has just become a habit (and a daily challenge) for me to finish the jug. Took a few days break because of a throat infection before starting challenge 2 (I wasn’t eating much of anything), but started it today with a fruit salad for breakfast. Hoping I can stick to this….I’m desperate to get back to my pre-baby weight! Thanks for the resources!

      Not only is it common, but believe it or not, it can be a good thing. If someone has a lot of waste in their body, often times increasing water consumption will give their body a chance to to a hard fast immediate flush of toxins.         Hi Terry, I’m on day 8. Things are going much better. Took my body a few days to get back to normal. I stand all day at work and I’ve noticed my legs don’t hurt like they used to. Also, I don’t have back aches in the morning. I still feel like I’m peeing all the time. Definitely gonna continue the water. No change in weight though.

      Hi Tom! That is normal for some, believe it or not. And it’s temporary. Your body may be holding on to this “precious new water” in case it stops. It will adjust and flush out within a week.     Ok just read all of the info today and although it is Wednesday…I AM STARTING. Confession, I had lipo and year ago in my stomach and bum area, but my thighs have gained 2 more inches a piece. YIKES. I hope I have not destroyed my body. Is it possible to lose my thighs? I have always had “cottage cheese” thighs but I want to look and feel better than every. HELP Terry, I am feeling like this can not be true as every other program I have tried. ;( OK now that I am over my pitty party, my question is…do I start with a cleanse first (veggie) or do I start at the water challenge and work my way to a cleanse?     It’s ment to be. I work next to one of those water filling places. Today after work I went in and bought on of those 5 gallon blue jugs with a nozzle attached to it. ( I did this on a whim) It’s 11:35 pm in CA. I was just getting ready to log off FB and came across this article. I’ve actually recently lost quite a bit of weight. I think this will be a great cleanse. I really don’t want to loose anymore wight. Should I avoid this? My wife has some weight she would like to loose after 2nd kid. I’ll get her to join.

      Day 3… Getting used to drinking all this water. Just have to time the drinking to refrain from drinking after 6PM.. Trying to get a full night sleep.     Wow this is amazing and I’m only on day 2! I’ve lost 7 pounds since the first day (half a stone!) im very strict with the scales so I never lie. I managed 1.5 litres on day 1 (I normally went through the day drinking 1 glass of water and could go a whole day only peeing once or twice). So 1.5 litres was a big challenge! And my oh my did my pee a lot! I cannot believe my eyes when I see 7 pounds has just dropped off! Going to try 1.5 litres again today (though alcohol is going to be around later, but will drink water between beverages!)

    This programme is amazing. I’m hooked already. If I can lose 7 pounds every day I’ll be over the moon!!!!

    I am going to start this challenge tomorrow and I am excited. I was wondering if we should be drinking the water at certain times of the day? Ie 30 min before we eat only or have scheduled breaks. Thanks for your support

      Hi Tiffany. Anytime that you can get it in is fine but 1. Avoid drinking while you eat (so stop 20 mins before you eat and start again 30 after you eat) if you can. 2. One tall glass right after you wake. YOU CAN DO IT!

    I am starting day 1 for your challenge (#1). I am a terrible with my weight fluctuation, but I am usually the most consistent at 190-200 lbs. (6ft). I have weighed as much as 240 but then lost down to 169. My question to you is, once you complete a challenge should I continue the steps through the next challenge, or just focus on the task at hand? Thanks Terry, I love a little competition.

    I’m new to this reset challenge and just started today. What are we allowed to eat on this first challenge? also I weigh 283 am I suppose drink more than a gallon a day for the next 10 days? I just started with the water, was I suppose to do any cleanse and if so is it too late? Which cleanse would you prefer, if so?

      Hi Teresa. Yes you can eat on the Water Challenge. Yes, based on your weight, you need more than a gallon (140ozs for you daily).

    I’m on day 7 of the water challenge and gave actually GAINED 6 pounds. What am I doing wrong? Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get measurements ad we were out of town.

      Hi April. Believe it or not that’s pretty common. It’s only temporary though. Once your body realizes more water is coming, it will stop holding on to it, then the amazing effects will happen for you also. YOU CAN DO IT!

    Hello there, I have been struggling with weight loss my entire life, and I’m only 21! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been over weight. I currently weigh 230lbs, and would love to shed those pounds. I just have a very demanding job, so if have to carry a water bottle around with me. I was also wondering if this could help quit smoking? I am having the hardest time, and want to quit so bad, but I’m afraid of gaining more weight. Any suggestions you have would be wonderful. I’m literally willing to try anything. Thanks!

      Hi Janivea. Yes it is possible to drink too much water and flush vital nutrients from your body. Stick to the proper amount mentioned above and add sea salt to your water and you’ll be 100% fine!

    Hi Terry. I know I’m dehydrated and my health is suffering for it. I am slightly underweight and always struggling to put on weight. Will increasing my water intake cause me to lose weight or (hopefully) the opposite might happen?

      Hi Al. Drinking the water will help your body’s cells rebalence their function and do their job far better. So if that helps you to put more nutrients from your foods and then gain more weight, then that is what they will do. The only way to know is for you get to work. YOU CAN DO IT!     Hi, I found your Challenges the day after the Dr told me to drink 100 oz of water a day even though I am only 150 lbs….sooo
    I began the Water Challenge Jan 13th Wed. I decided to add the No Bread Challenge the next day the 14th. I have lost 2 1/4 lbs after 3 days…yay!
    I bought groceries to add the 21 Day Salad and the No Sugar Challenge beginning the tomorrow Sunday Jan 17th….
    So ready for this!

    Question: what are your thoughts on the use of the little crystal lite packets?

    I just started my water challenge yesterday! I did another challenge where I logged my food in Fitness Pal for 21 days (still logging). I lost 15 lbs, but have stalled out. I was hoping the water challenge would help me get going again. I gained 1 lb and was researching if that was normal (I figured it was) and came across your website and FB group!     So glad I googled you this morning…so I am inspired…I am starting the water challege….128oz of water is alot, but it is 8 pm and I have 16oz left to drink…I have been peeing all the time.lol…I also started the No bread challege, and the 21 salad challege…I am so glad that I love veggies, and lean proteins. I also love greek yogurt, so I hope I can still incorporate a small plain one in my plan…I just ordered your book, so I am looking forward to feeling a whole lot better. I would love to lose close to 90lbs. I just took my measurements and starting weight today. YOu are funny and very knowledgable. Thanks for helping me start feeling better

    I didn’t register but I’ve been meeting the water challenge for 3 weeks. I have much more energy and I’ve lost 12 pounds.
    People will say it’s impossible to drink that much water but here’s what worked for me – It’s not about opening a bottle and taking a sip. Every single time I thought about it, I GUZZLED, I gulped water from a quart mason jar until I needed air. My skin is glowing too!

      Hi Kristen. There is no filtered water requirement. This is my order of water preference though: Filtered Water
      Spring Water
      Distilled Water
      Reverse Osmosis Water
      Alkaline Water
      Bottled Water
      Tap Water
      Garden hose and park drinking fountain water 🙂 …..But remember, any water is better than no water.

    Terry I have a problem with low sodium I have all my life. I need to lose 150 pounds. Everytime I drink copious amounts of water even though I have at least a teaspoon of salt a day it’s never enough. How can I work this out without getting sick with low sodium how much more should I add.
