30 Day Walking Challenge!

1 ADD a 30-45 min Walk to a normal day of walking (That’s 10,000 steps)

2 Do it 5 days a week

3 That’s 25 miles a week and 100 miles in a month! (THAT’S 200,000 steps!)

4 Buy a pedometer from Target for $10 or download a free pedometer app to your smartphone (I use Pacer)

5 Get a group of you to do it together!

Can you COMMIT to this for 30 days? SHOW ME!

Why am I doing this?

support join 4Because the average Australian walks 9,695 steps daily. The average Swiss person walks 9,650 steps daily. About 5 miles
How far does the average American walk? 5,117 steps…That’s less than 2 miles! 🙁

How boring is walking??!! I know, I know. But crazy as it sounds, we human beings are totally designed to walk. If you think about it, a normal person (normal fitness and no injuries) can pretty much walk forever. Give them some comfortable shoes (or barefoot if walking on grass), find a way to feed them on the go, and what’s stopping them other than sleep?

OTHER BENEFITS: Improved blood circulation – Keeps muscle fiber elastic – Keeps joints lubricated – Decreases lower back pain – Releases lactic acid – Burns calories – Increases fat consumption – Improves alertness – Reverses lazy mood – Much more!

Each Day = Distance of 17 Football Fields

Each Week = Distance of a Marathon

Each Month = Distance of the Coast of Maui

What’s the big deal with walking?

Lymphatic System
One of the most important benefits of walking is it activates your body’s lymphatic system – the garbage collection unit of your cells. Your body has two major circulation systems: Blood system and Lymphatic system.

Blood – Carries nutrients and oxygen to your body’s cells. It is pumped around by your heart.

Lymphatic – Removes and carries waste and toxins from cells to your lymph nodes to be eliminated from the body. (There are two to three times more lymph fluid in the body than blood.) It only allows lymph fluid to move in one direction away from the cells and it has NO PUMP. As you move, gravity drives the circulation of lymph fluid.

How can I walk more?

Pedometer app
– Walk to work
– It takes 15 minutes to walk a mile…anything that’s 15 minutes away is walking distance!
– Park further in the parking lot
– Skip the elevators and escalators and take the stairs
– Instead of meeting for coffee or a drink, meet up and walk

“But it’s cold or rainy!!”
– Walk around a mall
– Bundle up and walk any damn way…stop whining! 🙂

Walking is not something that you can take 3 months off of in the winter. You MUST rework your life and schedule to make time to walk. Detoxify your body, decrease back pain, increase energy, stress relief…we can find an excuse or we can find a solution my friend. Lace up, get out, get walking!

Hi! One quick question. I walk 3 days a week and weight train 2-3.Isvthat ok? I still exercise 5-6 days a week?

    Thank you!

Great question! Then this might not be a huge “challenge” for you. Get creative & shake things up! Get a personal trainer for a month! Join a group workout class for a month! Shock your body!

I am going to try harder to walk for 30 day challenge. It’s funny how just the thought of it sent a part of my brain into thinking of reasons why I shouldn’t, BUT I am not going to fail before starting. Just 1 step at a time, I will try and post each day how many steps I managed.

Hi Terry will walking help me lose weight even if I only exercise 3x week

  13. Karen Eaton May 18, 2016 at 3:35 am

I walk 15,000 steps a day sometimes more but never less. On May 12th, I have walked every day for 2 years outside in all kinds of weather, I live in Maine. I was diagnosed with CLL 2 years ago and walking every day has keep it at bay, I have not had a cold or flu. I believe that walking and fresh air helps tremendously.

I am trying to lose weight but work 2 jobs and don’t have time so what I want to do is wake up 30 minutes before I start getting ready for work and walk 30 minutes, but I also want to lose weight will walking 3 times a week and gong to the gym Monday and Friday help?

  18. Yulonda June 30, 2016 at 12:01 pm

Hello Terry, I want to say God bless you for taking this initiative and encouraging all of us out here who struggle with staying committed to a healthier life. I have always hated the taste of water so I wouldn’t drink any water. But since taking your challenge I have slowly learn to love water I’ve learned that cold water for me is better than warm water. I sip out 32oz cup with a straw a makes it not so overwhelming for me to get it right out the jug. So I fill jug everyday let it get cold then poor in my cup throughout day. And that works awesome for me. 28 days behind me, my skin is glowing so many people have given me a compliment about my scan my hair is sulfur and my joints are not hurting when I walk. I started the walking challenge last week I woke up this morning I have not measure, but my stomach is noticeably smaller my face my arms are shrinking. Thank you thank you thank you have a blessed day to save a man

I was wondering if it would be alright for me to use “Walk Away The Pounds”. It allows you to walk indoors. Is “Walk Away The Pounds” acceptable or do I need to walk outside?
